Controlled Substances • Prescription Drugs • Drug Trafficking
Good people sometimes make bad choices or get involved with the wrong people. And in their zeal to secure convictions, police don’t always follow the rules, and prosecutors often over-charge drug crimes.
At The Law Firm of Christopher T. Adams, P.C., we are committed to preventing long prison terms for those accused of drug possession or drug trafficking. Criminal defense lawyer Chris Adams provides the skilled, experienced representation to challenge the evidence and limit the punishment.
Based in Lawrenceville, Georgia, our firm serves Gwinnett County and the north metro area of Atlanta. Call immediately at 800-582-0304 for a free consultation.
Possession And Intent To Distribute
It is a felony to possess:
- Any amount of a controlled substance such as cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine or ecstasy
- Any amount of an unlawfully obtained prescription narcotic such as OxyContin, Percocet or Vicodin
- An ounce or more of marijuana
At a certain amount (or small amounts of several different drugs), prosecutors will charge it as possession with intent to distribute. A conviction could mean years in prison, and if there are drug priors, even a life sentence. Attorney Adams will try to convince prosecutors to reduce the charge to a more appropriate charge or get his client qualified for diversion or other alternatives to harsh prison time.
Drug Trafficking Charges
Drug trafficking carries mandatory minimum prison terms, with enhanced sentencing for prior convictions or possession of guns in connection with the arrest. There are severe financial penalties, such as asset forfeiture and fines up to $100,000.
Our mission is to prove that police cut corners in setting up a sting or in the search or arrest that violated our client’s rights. Attorney Chris Adams is skilled at finding the holes in the evidence to gain leverage to reduce or even dismiss charges or to mitigate the punishment. Ultimately, he is prepared to go to trial to protect his clients’ freedom.
