When we are in trouble, we often seek to avoid the situation, hoping to prevent consequences from occurring. However, evading the situation could result in more penalties. When authorities believe that a motorist has violated the law, law enforcement will likely pull the vehicle over. When a driver fails to follow this cue, this could devolve into a much more serious situation.
According to recent reports, a woman from Coweta County is now facing multiple charges after causing a police chase that resulted in her crashing into a patrol car and then fleeing the scene on foot. Georgia law enforcement supposedly observed the 24-year-old driver drift in and out of her lane. This resulted in officers attempting to pull her over.
During this attempt, the driver accelerated, signaling left and then right, without ever making a turn. Eventually, she turned into an apartment complex, circling the building by driving through the grass and over the walkways. The pursuit finally ended when the driver struck a police car. Following this collision, she exited the vehicle and ran. Officers stunned her with a Taser and arrested her.
During a search, officers located five empty baggies with white residue, three cutoff plastic straws, pieces of aluminum foil and prescription medication. The driver was taken to the hospital, where a blood sample was collected. Reports suggest that she was under the influence of drugs, Xanax and methamphetamine. She now faces multiple charges, including DUI drugs, driving with a suspended license, fleeing and eluding officers, failure to make immediate report of an accident and the possession of narcotics.
Facing drug charges along with other charges is a very serious situation. But, the details of the matter could help the accused with a defense. This information could help challenge evidence or assist with a plea negotiation. No matter which defense route a defendant seeks to take, it is important to be well informed of one’s rights and options.
